Discover the Okapi

Purpose: 

Discover the Okapi is a prototype of a larger project in development called Okapi Odyssey. It was originally submitted for the I Love Science Game Jam 2023 and updated for Oak City Indie Games.  

The purpose of this project is to provide learners of all ages with rigorous texts and learning opportunities through the use of technology. When the project is complete, students will be able to first read about various aspects of okapi life (habitat, adaptations, etc.) then apply and reinforce their learnings through short gaming experiences. 

Objective:

The objective of this demo is to read through the text discussing the okapi habitat, then explore its habitat by controlling an okapi as it moves through the forest.  To complete your exploration, collect five plants for the okapi to eat while avoiding predators.

Directions: 

You can use WASD or your directional keys to move the okapi and explore its habitat. 

Future Updates:

The original prototype was completed in a week. While I've made updates since submission, there are still several areas I am looking to improve moving forward, including:

1. Adding music and sound effects
2. Improving the graphics / models / textures 
3. Adding new gameplay elements in the habitat environment Added in v2 Dec. 2023
4. Adding additional texts Added elementary and high school texts in v2.5 Dec. 2023
5. Adding additional levels
